Local Elections 2023
On the 4th May this year, we will be asked to vote in our Local elections to elect new District Councillors and new Town/Parish Councillors. As per the norm, the voting will take place in the Village Hall in Great Haseley, this year will see a difference where Identification will be required to cast your ballot paper. Anybody who does not have ID and requires a free ID can apply for one here: https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate this must be done by 5pm on Tuesday 25th April to be able to participate in this election. All normal photo-ID types will be accepted, even if out of date, but the picture is still a likeness.
Councillor qualifications
The election offers the opportunity for anyone to stand for election, providing they meet the requirements listed.
Candidates must satisfy criteria on the day they are nominated and on polling day:
- be at least 18 years of age
- be a British, qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or national of an EU member state.
- Also at least one of the following:
- registered local government elector for local authority area
- occupied as owner or tenant any land or premises in the local authority area during the whole 12 months preceding nomination
- principal or only place of work (including unpaid) during last 12 months in local authority area
- lived in the parish during the last 12 months or within 4.8km/3 miles of the parish

- The documents that must be submitted by all candidates by 4pm on Tuesday 4 April are:
- the nomination form
- their home address form
- the consent to nomination
- Party candidates will also need to submit, by 4pm on Tuesday 4 April:
- a certificate authorising the use of a party name/ registered description on the ballot paper
- a written request to use one of the party’s emblems on the ballot paper (optional)
- Take care when completing your nomination papers, as mistakes may invalidate your nomination
- The nomination form, home address form and consent to nomination must be delivered by hand and cannot be submitted by post, email or other electronic means
- Nominations must be delivered to the Returning Officer at Abbey House Oxfordshire County Council House, Abbey Cl, Abingdon OX14 3JD
- No appointment system – first come first served
